Registration

Who can participate

NOKI – the Norwegian AI Olympiad – is open to students in upper secondary school (videregående skole) in Norway who are interested in artificial intelligence, problem-solving, and responsible technology.

You can register even if you are new to AI or programming.

How to register

Students register themselves.

  1. Submit the Round 1 registration form using the registration button on this page.
  2. Create a free account on Brunost, the platform used for the first two rounds.
  3. Look out for an email with the competition link before Round 1.

How the rounds work

NOKI has four national rounds: two online rounds on Brunost, followed by two on-site rounds. See Key Dates for the current competition schedule.

Round 1

Online

Choose a day within the competition window that suits you. Once you start, you have a set time limit to complete the round.

Set aside at least two uninterrupted hours so you have time to focus on the competition.

Round 2

Online

You qualify for Round 2 if your Round 1 score meets or exceeds the qualifying score.

As in Round 1, you choose a day within the competition window and complete the round on Brunost. The time limit starts when you begin.

Set aside approximately three to four uninterrupted hours.

Round 3

On-site camp · Bergen

Around 30 students are invited to a camp in Bergen, where they take part in the third-round competition.

Camp invitations are based solely on Round 2 results.

At the camp, participants are ranked by their Round 3 results and divided into three approximately equal groups:

  • Gold: the highest-ranked third.
  • Silver: the next third.
  • Bronze: the remaining third.

Gold medallists qualify for Round 4 in the same competition year as the camp, where they compete for a place on the national team.

Round 4

On-site · National team selection

This round selects Norway's team for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). Eligible participants are:

  • Gold medallists from the same year's camp.
  • Students returning from the preparation programme who remain eligible to compete.
  • Participants from the previous year's international competitions.

Preparation for the international team

Gold medallists from the camp are also invited to an eight-month preparation programme for the following year's IOAI, provided they remain eligible to compete that year.

In that following competition season, students in the programme are exempt from Rounds 1–3 and enter directly at Round 4 for national team selection.
