About NOKI – The Norwegian AI Olympiad
NOKI (Norwegian Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence) is Norway’s official AI olympiad for upper secondary school students. It serves as the national framework for selecting and preparing Norway’s team for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).
Established in 2025, NOKI is the first national Olympiad in Norway focused entirely on AI. Our goal is to promote AI literacy, responsible innovation, and critical thinking through a national competition that is both challenging and accessible to motivated students across the country.
Purpose and Mission
Norway has long upheld values of equity, education, and public trust in technology. NOKI builds on this foundation by:
- Empowering young people with knowledge of AI, one of the most transformative forces of our time
- Democratizing access to technical and conceptual AI education through a national, merit-based competition open to all
- Promoting responsible innovation, encouraging students to consider fairness, explainability, and societal impact alongside technical performance
- Supporting future talent in alignment with national goals for digital competence and ethical technology development
Our Vision
NOKI was founded not only as a competition, but as a broader national initiative to shape how artificial intelligence is introduced, understood, and practiced at the school level in Norway.
Our long-term vision is to:
- Promote awareness of NOKI as a national platform for early-stage AI talent and education
- Develop an open educational platform that supports schools and students in learning AI fundamentals
- Provide guidance to schools on how to meaningfully integrate AI across disciplines
- Build international connections through shared problem-solving and collaboration
- Foster Nordic cooperation through joint competitions and educational events
